Basement Floor Restoration

Basement floor with chipping paint

A lot of basement floors that have been painted need restoration. A little (or a lot) of TLC. This basement floor had multiple layers of paint that were applied to the floor over the decades. Recently, the owners pets had done their business on the basement floor so it not only needed repainted, it also needed a thorough cleaning and disinfecting.

A thorough cleaning of a basement floor is essential to restoration. Careful preparation is key to paint lasting longer. The majority of the time spent on restoring and painting a basement floor is spent on preparation.

After the cleaning, we scraped all of the loose paint to prep it for primer. Most companies will forgo the primer to save time and money but we make sure that we primer after everything is dry. The primer that we use helps seal the floor and helps the paint to better adhere to the floor (You can see the primer around the perimeter of the third (above)).

At least one coat of primer is applied but trouble spots get an extra coat or two. The entire floor gets at least two coats of paint with, again, troubled areas getting extra coats. You will end up with a MUCH nicer looking floor when we are finished.

Now for those walls!
