This was a deck that desperately needed refinishing.  Deck refinishing is one of the many exterior jobs that we can handle adeptly.

This deck had a lot of moisture damage, as indicated by the algae and mold that is growing on it. There is even growth on the door! It hadn’t been tended to for years.

The first thing that we do when refinishing decks is a thorough cleaning, which includes sweeping, spraying and scrubbing with a mold/algae killer. We use the mold and algae  killer whether you see it or not to eliminate any possibility of early growth showing up later.  We then do a complete and gentle power wash of everything. We power wash the bottom portion of the house and exterior door as an added service.

After the deck is completely dry,  we did all necessary repairs. Pulling bad deck screws and replacing ect. Two of the boards in the center were rotted so we completely replaced those. Then a thorough sanding with progressively finer grits of sandpaper. This is an added step that some refinishers will ignore. It’s extremely labor intensive and adds to the cost, but it’s vitally important. Sanding a deck while renovating does a couple of things. First, it eliminates any rough spots that could be potential splinters in a foot (OUCH!). Secondly, it preps the wood for more effective stain penetration. This will ensure that the stain lasts longer and protects the wood better.

Finally, we apply an exterior solid deck stain. The color is always chosen by the client.  Two coats is always the minimum on a deck in the condition this one is in.

This deck is now ready for years of of use.
